It’s easy to lose track of how much ground a project covers over twelve months when you’re only checking in on headlines. Hedera’s 2025 was busier than most casual observers realize, and the list is worth walking through item by item.
Regulatory and access milestones
A spot HBAR ETF was approved in the United States, making HBAR only the third digital asset, after Bitcoin and Ethereum, to reach that status. That approval also opened the door to holding HBAR inside a retirement account through a brokerage, which is a meaningfully different access point than buying it on a crypto exchange. Separately, Wyoming selected Hedera for its state-issued stable token pilot, choosing the network reportedly for its low fees, small energy footprint, and governance model that regulators found easier to trust.
Banking and enterprise use cases
Shinhan Bank in South Korea ran live cross-border settlements across three countries using stablecoins on Hedera, with real-time processing and exchange rates applied automatically rather than batched. That’s the kind of use case that puts the network in direct comparison with correspondent banking rails that have run largely unchanged for decades. On the enterprise technology side, NVIDIA and Accenture built a system that logs AI decisions to Hedera’s ledger, aimed at letting hospitals and government agencies verify that automated decisions followed policy and ethical guidelines.
A national-level pilot
The Republic of Georgia signed an agreement to explore moving its national land registry onto the network, which would put an entire country’s property records on a public ledger. Combined, a spot ETF, a state-backed stablecoin pilot, multinational bank settlements, an NVIDIA partnership, and a national land registry agreement is an unusually dense list of institutional milestones for a single year. None of it guarantees future price performance, but it’s a real answer for anyone still treating HBAR as a small, speculative altcoin with no institutional traction.
