If You Want to Sell Your XRP & Pay the Lowest Fees

If you’re deciding whether to sell XRP outright or borrow against it, the exchange or venue you use for the sale matters more than most people realize, especially once the size of the transaction grows.

The cheapest route for larger holders

Working with a firm like Digital Wealth Partners on a liquidation gets you around 20 basis points with no spread, which is meaningfully cheaper than what you’ll pay running the same transaction through a standard retail exchange. For anyone holding a large enough position that the difference in basis points translates into real dollars, that’s worth checking before you route a sale through the first app on your phone.

If you don’t meet that threshold

If your position isn’t large enough to work directly with a firm like that, the next best option is going through an OTC desk at one of the major exchanges. Kraken has a strong OTC desk. Uphold runs one too and operates an institutional-investor platform. Coinbase has one as well. Most large exchanges do. Getting access is usually as simple as emailing their support team, explaining that you have a larger transaction you’d like to execute, and asking to be connected to someone on the OTC desk. They will generally get you to the right person.

What “large enough” actually means

The general threshold for OTC desk access is around a quarter million dollars or more. Below that, it typically isn’t worth the introduction, since OTC relationships are built around recurring, sizable transactions rather than one-off trades. If you’re regularly buying or selling above that threshold, the cost savings from OTC execution versus retail exchange fees and spreads add up fast, and it’s worth building the relationship rather than defaulting to whatever exchange app you already have installed.
