SBI Group, BITPOINT, and SBI VC Trade: HBAR Access in Japan

Quick answer: Two SBI Group crypto exchanges in Japan, BITPOINT and SBI VC Trade, both offer HBAR, the native token of the Hedera network. BITPOINT began handling HBAR on 19 February 2025, one of a handful of domestic Japanese listings, while SBI VC Trade lists HBAR for spot, accumulation, lending, and staking. This is a look at what the primary sources confirm, kept separate from any claim about HBAR’s price.

SBI Holdings is one of Japan’s larger financial groups, and it runs multiple regulated crypto-asset businesses. When two of them list the same token, the useful move is to read the company notices rather than the commentary. Here is what BITPOINT and SBI VC Trade actually say about HBAR, and how it connects to Hedera itself.

BITPOINT’s HBAR listing

BITPOINT, an SBI Group crypto-asset exchange, started handling HBAR on 19 February 2025, announced through the SBI Holdings press release dated the following day, which paired the launch with a promotional campaign. Reporting at the time noted it as one of the early domestic HBAR listings in Japan.

The exchange’s own HBAR handling notice set out the initial service scope: spot trading through the BITPOINT sales service and the BITPOINT PRO exchange, a lending service, and a monthly accumulation (tsumitate) option. Staking and deposits or withdrawals of HBAR were not part of the initial offering.

SBI VC Trade’s HBAR services

The other SBI Group venue, SBI VC Trade, lists HBAR with a broader set of services. Its HBAR page shows spot trading through both dealer and exchange formats, leveraged trading, accumulation purchasing, coin lending, and staking rewards. Trading is available around the clock, including weekends and holidays outside maintenance windows, and users can buy from as little as one HBAR.

Taken together, the two listings mean HBAR is reachable through more than one regulated SBI Group channel in Japan, with different feature sets depending on which venue a user chooses.

What HBAR and Hedera are

HBAR is the native token of Hedera, a public network that uses a distributed-ledger technology called Hashgraph rather than a traditional blockchain. On the network, HBAR pays transaction fees, which Hedera prices in fixed U.S. dollar terms, and is used to access network services.

Hedera’s distinguishing feature is its governance. The network is run by the Hedera Council, a rotating body of member organizations spanning multiple industries, with participants that have included Google, IBM, Deutsche Telekom, and others. That institutional, permissioned-node model is what SBI’s materials and third-party coverage point to when they describe Hedera as enterprise-oriented, and it is a factual description of the governance structure, not a judgment about the token’s value.

Why this matters

The signal here is availability and infrastructure, not a trade thesis. A token being listed by regulated exchanges inside a major SBI financial group means it clears those venues’ internal listing and compliance processes and becomes accessible to Japanese users through familiar, supervised channels. That is a distribution and access fact. It says nothing about whether HBAR will rise or fall, and a listing is not an endorsement of price.

One honest boundary: these notices establish that SBI Group companies offer HBAR services in Japan. They do not, on their own, support broader claims about partnerships, adoption elsewhere, or future value. Anyone extending the story beyond the exchange listings should point to a separate, specific source.
