Uncover the Secrets of CiFi and XDC with Harley Hermanson

I sat down with Harley Hermanson of ElitWeb3 to talk about CiFi and the XDC Network, and where both fit into the current state of the crypto market. It’s a conversation worth having because XDC has carved out a specific niche: hybrid blockchain infrastructure aimed at trade finance and interoperability between public and private ledgers, rather than trying to be a general-purpose smart contract platform competing head-on with Ethereum.

Why trade finance is the interesting use case

Global trade finance runs on paper-heavy processes: letters of credit, bills of lading, multi-party verification that can take days or weeks to clear. That’s a real bottleneck, and it’s the kind of problem blockchain infrastructure is actually well suited to solve, moving verification and settlement onto a shared ledger that every counterparty can trust without a mountain of intermediaries. XDC’s hybrid architecture, combining public network transparency with private network confidentiality, is built specifically with that use case in mind.

What CiFi adds to the conversation

The interview framed CiFi alongside XDC as part of a broader shift in how crypto-native infrastructure integrates with existing finance, rather than trying to replace it outright. That’s a theme that shows up across the more institutionally focused corners of this industry: less “crypto versus banks” and more “crypto as new plumbing underneath the same financial relationships.” Whether that framing holds up depends on real adoption, not just conference talk, so it’s worth watching for actual pilots and production use rather than announcements alone.

The bigger picture

Conversations like this one matter because they come from people building in the space, not just trading around it. If you’re trying to understand where tokenization and institutional blockchain adoption are actually headed, listening to builders describe the problems they’re solving, in their own words, tells you more than a headline ever will.
