XRPL EVM Sidechain, Axelar & Squid Connect Networks

The XRPL EVM Sidechain now has a live bridge to Axelar’s network, and Squid sits on top of that connection to route swaps across chains. If you’ve been waiting for XRPL to talk to the wider EVM world without a custom integration for every counterparty, this is the piece that does it.

What actually connects to what

Ripple’s own writeup confirms the XRPL EVM Sidechain mainnet is live, and Axelar’s bridge announcement covers the messaging layer that lets assets and instructions move between XRPL EVM and other Axelar-connected chains. Squid Connect builds a swap interface on top of that bridge, so a user or integrator doesn’t have to hand-roll cross-chain routing logic. The XRPL EVM bridge docs walk through the mechanics of transferring XRP across that connection.

Why interoperability is the right word, not “liquidity for all of crypto”

Bridges and messaging layers expand where an asset can move and which markets it can reach. That’s a real, measurable improvement in optionality for builders and institutions holding XRPL-native assets. It is not the same claim as saying this connects to all of crypto’s liquidity, which overstates what a single bridge integration does. A bridge connects to the specific chains it’s integrated with, on the terms of that integration, with its own security assumptions. Peersyst’s case study on the XRPL EVM bridge is useful here because it documents the engineering side of the work rather than the marketing framing.

What to check before you rely on it

If a client or portfolio company is planning to move assets across this bridge, the questions worth asking are the boring ones: what’s the bridge’s security model, who operates the validator set on each side, and what’s the fallback if a transfer stalls. None of that shows up in an announcement post. It shows up in the technical docs and in how the bridge has actually performed since launch.
